Vatican Secretary of State calls for peace in Ukraine

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin called for the swift resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the establishment of peace on Ukrainian soil. The cardinal noted that despite the fruitlessness of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, the parties must continue their work toward concluding a peace agreement. This was reported by Vatican News.
«No war is inevitable, no peace is impossible. Weapons can and must fall silent to give way to hope for peace. Although every country’s efforts to ensure sovereignty and security are legitimate and necessary, the question always arises as to how much the strengthening of military power can contribute to building trust between countries and establishing a lasting peace,» — Parolin said.
Recall that on the eve of the Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Pope Leo XIV. The Kremlin leader, among other things, called on the Pontiff to speak out in defense of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and ensure freedom of religion in Ukraine.
