Boxer Lomachenko announces the end of his sports career

Ukrainian boxer and IBF lightweight world champion Vasyl Lomachenko, known for his support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, announced that he is retiring from boxing. The 37-year-old boxer thanked God, his family and fans for the years of support. The athlete announced this on his social networks.

“First of all, I would like to thank our Lord Jesus Christ for everything He has done for me and for leading a small, vain boy along the way, which showed me that recognition of history and legend is not the end in itself,” — the athlete said.

He also thanked his parents, coaches and fans for believing in him and supporting him throughout his career, no matter what.

“You have always been passionate about supporting me and experiencing these unforgettable matches for a decade. I wish you to love boxing as passionately and treat it with respect. Because the guys who enter the ring risk their health for the sake of their families,” — Lomachenko added.

Earlier, Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko criticized the statements of the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko about the success of the calendar reform. Dumenko, in an interview with the We-Ukraine TV channel, said that the transition to the “new style” in Ukraine was successful and did not divide society, and only a few people celebrate Christmas in the “old style”. For his part, Vasyl Lomachenko accused the head of the OCU of lying and “opening a religious front” in the country.
