We recall that on June 17, 2025, in Chernivtsi, there was an attempt to violently seize the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by raiders associated with the OCU. According to reports from believers and representatives of the Chernivtsi-Bukovina Diocese, about 50 people in balaclavas and sportswear blocked all entrances to the temple. Eyewitnesses report that the attackers used force against believers and also used tear gas. One of the videos from the scene shows the bloodied hand of one of the victims.

After an unsuccessful attempt to seize the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the Chernivtsi-Bukovina Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which supporters of the OCU tried to carry out the day before, the Chernivtsi police received more than a dozen reports related to the events that took place. Law enforcement officials said they managed to keep the situation under control and prevent the conflict from escalating. This was reported on the official website of the Chernivtsi National Police.
“On June 17, a conflict arose between representatives of two religious communities over the use of a religious building. Bukovina police officers responded immediately, took preventive measures, and prevented further escalation of the conflict. At present, the Chernivtsi regional police have received more than 10 reports from citizens, including reports of bodily harm and the possible seizure of a religious building by unknown persons. All complaints have been registered in the Unified System for Recording Complaints and Reports, will be investigated, and the legal classification of the events will be determined. Law enforcement officers continue to guard the religious building around the clock and urge citizens to comply with current legislation and resolve disputes exclusively within the legal framework,” – the statement said.
