The future fate of the Metropolitan of the Church of Cyprus will be decided by the Phanar

The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, His Beatitude Archbishop George, announced that the future fate of the deposed Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos will be decided at the Phanar. The bishop was forbidden to perform divine services, and his see was transferred to another hierarch. However, the final decision will be made only at the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. This was reported by The Orthodox Times.
It is reported that the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus sent an official letter to the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Tychikos. The letter, signed by Archbishop George of Cyprus, who is acting as Metropolitan of Paphos, clearly states that the bishop is not allowed to conduct services in Paphos, with the sole exception of permission to perform the Divine Liturgy on the anniversary of his mother’s death.
«The decision of the Holy Synod of May 22, 2025, concerning your person, explicitly states that you are deprived of your rank and transferred to the disposal of the Church, which will use you where it deems appropriate, provided that you first submit a confession of faith acceptable to the Synod. However, this has not happened, mainly because of the request you submitted to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Thus, the Holy Synod cannot assign you a specific role at this time, but only after the Ecumenical Patriarchate has decided on your request,» — the letter states.
