Lutsk City Council does not plan to sue the UOC community over the construction of a church

The Lutsk City Council does not plan to sue the St. John the Theologian religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church over the construction of a church. This was reported by city council deputies from the SVIDOMI party, who complained that the city authorities are showing excessive loyalty to the UOC. The deputies’ comments were published on the regional website Konkurent.

According to the publication, City Council deputy Andriy Luchyk stated that the UOC church in honor of John the Theologian was built illegally in Lutsk, since the intended purpose of the land plot does not correspond to “the construction and maintenance of religious buildings.” According to him, on the cadastral map, the land plot where the church was built is designated “for individual residential development.”

“For religious buildings, the intended purpose must be different. In fact, they built one floor there and covered it with domes. During the May session, my colleague Mykhailo Nakhod asked the city council leadership to respond to these violations and take legal action. But there will be no response! Only a month later did the officials respond. In short, no one will do anything because inspections are prohibited during the war. Therefore, they say, it is impossible to record that the land is being used for purposes other than its intended purpose. Accordingly, they say, it is impossible to file a lawsuit because of this,” – writes Luchik.

Earlier, we reported that the construction of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel of the UGCC is planned within the historical area of Socialist Zaporizhzhia. It will be located at 1-b Metallurgov Avenue. A project of the future church has been developed. On November 13, 2024, it was presented at a meeting of the Advisory Board.
