Earlier, we reported that one of the previous Synod meetings of the UGCC was held in Washington. It is worth noting that in the summer of 2005, the UGCC officially moved its center from Lviv to the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Since then, Kyiv has been considered the center of the denomination, and the “patriarchal see” is the Kyiv Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. Why the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church holds synod meetings in the USA and Canada, so far from Ukraine, remains unclear.
Pope Leo XIV received the Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church at the Vatican

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, met with members of the Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Receiving the participants of the Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church at an audience in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV assured them of his closeness to the Ukrainian people, who are going through difficult times. This was reported by Vatican News.
“I am close to you, and through you I am close to all the faithful of your Church. Remain united in one faith and one hope. Our communion is a great mystery: it is also a true communion with all our brothers and sisters whose lives were taken from this earth but were accepted by God. In Him, everything lives and finds its full meaning,” said Pope Leo XIV.
