Pashinyan Calls for Extraordinary Election of the Catholicos of All Armenians

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has proposed holding an extraordinary election of the Catholicos of All Armenians. He made the statement on his social media account. This was reported by Report.
«Extraordinary elections must definitely take place. But extraordinary elections for the Catholicos of All Armenians,» wrote the Armenian Prime Minister.
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian Apostolic Church is building a defensive line in response to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s campaign, which is seen in Etchmiadzin as an attempt to interfere in church affairs, including with the aim of replacing the Catholicos. Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, head of the chancery of the Holy Etchmiadzin, stated that the government’s anti-clerical rhetoric is aimed at distracting the public from real problems — particularly the loss of Artsakh. According to him, instead of fulfilling its direct responsibilities, the country’s leadership is creating false agendas and looking for imaginary targets.
