Poroshenko accused Zelensky of causing Local Churches to stop recognizing the OCU during his presidency

Former Ukrainian President and Member of Parliament Petro Poroshenko accused current Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskyy of causing Local Orthodox Churches to stop recognizing the Orthodox Church of Ukraine during his term in office. Poroshenko believes that frequent meetings with church leaders contributed to the recognition of the OCU during his administration. The former president said this during his visit to Chernivtsi.
«I was not ashamed when, during international visits, a meeting with the primates of the Orthodox Churches was a mandatory part of my program. With one message: the Church (the OCU, ed.) is the people’s church, it has strong support in Ukraine. Under Poroshenko, four Orthodox Churches recognized the Ukrainian Church. Tell me, how many churches recognized it after my term ended?», — Poroshenko said.
Earlier, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel commented on the Bulgarian Orthodox Church’s attitude toward the Ukrainian church crisis. The primate noted that the Bulgarian Church remains among the 11 Local Orthodox Churches that do not recognize the OCU. He is convinced that the Ukrainian church issue will be resolved in due course.
