In Volyn, supporters of the OCU provoke another scandal over the funeral service for a deceased Ukrainian soldier

Supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine caused another scandal surrounding the funeral of a deceased soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This time, the incident took place in the village of Dubechno, Kovel District, Volyn Region. Relatives of Ivan Lypka, a local resident who died at the front, demanded that the rector of the local Holy Protection community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church provide a church so that representatives of the OCU could perform the funeral service for the soldier. This was reported by the regional publication BUG.

It is reported that since the relatives of the deceased Ivan Lypka are supporters of the OCU, and there is no OCU church in the village of Dubechno, they demanded that the local priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church provide the village Holy Protection Church of the UOC so that representatives of the Ukrainian schism could perform the burial there.

However, the rector of the Holy Protection community of the UOC opposed this request of the relatives of the deceased soldier, pointing out that since the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has no communion with the OCU, the church cannot be provided to representatives of this denomination.

In this regard, the relatives of the deceased caused a scandal and initially wanted to hold the funeral service for Ivan Lipka on the territory of the local memorial, but later they reached an agreement with the priest of the UOC, accepting a compromise solution — to conduct the funeral not in Church Slavonic, but in Ukrainian.
