The Irpin City Council voted to terminate the powers of the mayor who organized the seizure of UOC churches

The Irpin City Council (Kyiv region) voted to terminate the powers of Mayor Oleksandr Markushin. Markushin himself claims that he was dismissed in the interests of the previous mayor, who wants to “seize power” in the city. Markushin is known to local communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for his active support of the OCU and the seizure of UOC churches in favor of the Ukrainian schism. This was reported by NV.

According to media reports, the majority of deputies voted to express no confidence in Markushin and terminate his powers early. The day before, the official wrote on his Facebook page that during the city council session, the so-called raiders were “making another attempt to seize power in Irpin,” trying to transfer the mayor’s powers to the secretary.

Markushin is known to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for organizing and supporting the seizure of the Holy Trinity, St. George’s, St. Nicholas’s, and Holy Resurrection churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city, as well as St. Michael’s Church in the suburb of Irpin, in the village of Mikhailivka-Rubizhivka.
