During his meeting with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the security of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as one of the priority issues in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by The New York Times.

According to the publication, during the summit between the leaders of Russia and the US, which took place on August 17 in Anchorage, Alaska, a wide range of topics related to bilateral cooperation and a peaceful settlement of the war between Russia and Ukraine were discussed. Witnesses to the conversation between the two presidents claim that Vladimir Putin demanded security guarantees for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as one of the elements of future peace agreements between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, we reported that Ukrainian MPs Oleksandr Dubinsky and Artem Dmitruk sent an appeal to US President Donald Trump, in which, among other things, they asked him to ensure that the issue of protecting the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church be included in the peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The MPs hope that during the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, the persecution of clergy and believers of the UOC will be one of the important points of negotiation.
