Greek Catholics will mourn Andriy Parubiy, who sought the Tomos for the OCU

Andriy Parubiy, a Ukrainian MP who was killed two days ago and was one of the ideologists behind the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a champion of the Tomos for the OCU, will be buried by Greek Catholics. The funeral service will take place at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cathedral of St. George in Lviv. This was reported by “Suspilne. Lviv.”

According to a statement posted on the Lviv City Council website, the funeral will take place at St. George’s Cathedral on Tuesday, September 2 (5 St. George’s Square). It will begin at 12:00 p.m.

It is worth noting that Andriy Parubiy, who was a member of the parliamentary faction of former President Petro Poroshenko’s Solidarity party, was actively involved in obtaining the Tomos of Autocephaly for the OCU, for which he personally met with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople on several occasions. In addition, the late MP fought persistently against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and voted to ban the UOC in 2024.

At the same time, it has not been reported why representatives of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, rather than the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, will conduct Andriy Parubiy’s funeral.
