Earlier, the head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, declared the Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Macedonia “uncanonical.” Dumenko claims that the Macedonian Church illegally gained independence from the Serbian Church and “entered into an alliance with the Moscow Patriarchate.” The head of the OCU is convinced that the ROC plans to implement the same scenario in Ukraine.
The primates of the American and Macedonian Churches held their first joint divine service
On September 2, 2025, the first joint Divine Liturgy in history was held at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington between the Primates of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric and the Orthodox Church in America. This was reported by the Macedonian Church news portal liturgija.mk.
It is reported that during the service, Metropolitan Tikhon included the name of Archbishop Stephen in the Diptych of the Heads of Local Churches for the first time, which signifies the official recognition of the autocephaly of the Macedonian Church by the Orthodox Church in America. The liturgy brought together clergy and believers from the United States and Canada, including the Macedonian community. After the service, a solemn reception was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia, attended by Ambassador Zoran Popov.
