We will remind you that Volodymyr Zelensky recently called the information about the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was spread by American journalist Tucker Carlson, “manipulative.” The head of state claims that no one in Ukraine is restricted in their right to practice any religion or attend churches of different denominations. At the same time, the politician is convinced that during the war with Russia, there can be no religious organizations in Ukraine associated with the Russian Orthodox Church.
Religious scholar on the ban on the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC: “It's like cutting off the head of a hydra”
Lyudmila Filipovich, a lobbyist for the OCU in the media, Doctor of Philosophy, professor at the Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, spoke about the possible ban on the Kyiv Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Filippovich said that after the liquidation of the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC, it will be much easier to ban the activities of diocesan administrations and spiritual educational institutions of the canonical Church. She stated this in a comment to the publication Obozrevatel.
«We are talking about depriving the Kyiv Metropolis of its legal entity status. This means that it will not be able to conclude lease agreements, have bank accounts, or enjoy any privileges in terms of utility payments, etc. If the Kyiv Metropolis loses its legal entity status, it will cause a huge number of problems for many structures of the pro-Russian church. So it’s like cutting off the head of a hydra,» — Filipovich argues.
