The President of Montenegro visited Phanar

On September 11, 2025, President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović paid an official visit to the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The politician met with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and other high-ranking representatives of the Phanar. This was reported by the press service of the Church.
It is reported that during the meeting, which was attended by President Milatović and Patriarch Bartholomew, as well as Metropolitans Emmanuel of Chalcedon, Maxim of Selimbri, and other members of the delegations, issues of mutual interest were discussed. After that, the President of Montenegro was given a tour of the Patriarchate.
We recall that last year we published an analytical article about Montenegro potentially becoming the next target for the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The unrecognized Montenegrin Orthodox Church has long existed in the country, enjoying special attention from the state and serving as a de facto counterweight to the Montenegrin Metropolis of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is possible that the Patriarch of Constantinople may act in Montenegro in the same way as in Ukraine, granting a Tomos of autocephaly to local schismatics.
