Russia and U.S. discussed ban on UOC - Russian Foreign Minister

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, has confirmed the information that the issue of banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was discussed during the meeting between the Russian and US presidents. According to Lavrov, the topic of the Ukrainian church crisis was considered in the context of a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war and was included in the package of proposals sent to the Ukrainian side. This is reported by “Strana.ua”.

As noted by the Russian Foreign Minister, Moscow and Washington discussed, in particular, the ban of the UOC, and “the United States understands that the violation of human rights in Ukraine is unacceptable”. Nevertheless, when this information, among other proposals, was brought to the Ukrainian side by US special envoy Steve Whitkoff, Kiev found it unacceptable.

We shall remind you that earlier, US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that an agreement on a ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine could include protection of the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Whitaker noted that US President Donald Trump was making considerable efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and that the best moment for this was coming now.
