In Cherkassy, lights were cut off in the UOC church due to debts of the Cathedral seized by the OCU

«Cherkasyoblenergo» stopped supplying electricity to one of the churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cherkasy, demanding that the UOC diocese pay off the debt for electricity used by representatives of the «Orthodox Church of Ukraine» in the cathedral they had previously seized. The situation arose after the OCU appropriated the Archangel Michael Cathedral, but did not pay for utilities, resulting in the accumulation of significant debt. This is reported by Pravlife.
According to the information, on September 16, 2025, the power supplying organization cut off electricity in the Christ-Christmas Hierarchical podvorye in Cherkassy. The official reason was the electricity debt of the Archangel Michael Cathedral, which, according to sources, was seized by «militants of OCU last year. Immediately after the seizure of the shrine, the Cherkasy diocese of the UOC informed Cherkasyoblenergo about the criminal taking of its property by outsiders. Nevertheless, the new «owners» of the temple, who declared it a «garrison cathedral of the OCU», did not pay for electricity for a single day.
To date, the amount of arrears for electricity for the seized cathedral is 300 thousand hryvnias. «Cherkasyoblenergo» insists that it is the Cherkasy diocese of the UOC to pay this amount, despite the fact that, according to the documents, the temple remains the property of the UOC, and the debt was accumulated by persons who have nothing to do with the diocese.
