The court will consider a lawsuit to stop the activity of the Kyiv Metropolitan Church of the UOC on September 30

The Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal in Kiev has scheduled for September 30, 2025 the first hearing on the lawsuit filed by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) to stop the activity of the Kiev Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This case may lead to the liquidation of the central governing body of the UOC.

As reported in the Telegram-channel of lawyer Nikita Chekman, representing the interests of the Metropolis, the suit of the DESS is aimed at a complete halt to the activities of the religious administrative center of the UOC. «We are talking about the possible termination of the activity of the religious administrative center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which manages dioceses, parishes, monasteries, spiritual schools, fraternities and other religious organizations,» the announcement reads.

The announcement stresses that the consideration of this case is of exceptional importance for millions of Ukrainian citizens and thousands of religious organizations that are part of the UOC. The lawyers are acting with the blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

The first court hearing in case No. 855/11/25 will be held at 11:40 a.m. in the courthouse at the following address: Kiev, 8, Princes Ostrozhskyi Street, Building 30. The hearing will be open to the public. It is also planned online broadcast on the official page of the Law Office in Facebook.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal refused the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in satisfaction of the application for interim measures in the case of termination of its activities. The church requested to prohibit the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience from sending orders to its structural subdivisions, but the court rejected this request.
