In Zhytomyr region reported the number of parishes of the UOC re-registered in favor of the PCU

Since the beginning of 2022 in Zhytomyr region, the state has managed to re-register more than a hundred parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in favor of the OCU. This is reported by Ukrinform.

The head of Zhytomyr Regional State Administration Vitaliy Bunechko emphasized that the regional administration «does not interfere in this process». «During the full-scale war, 135 parishes that previously belonged to the UOC-MP decided to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine,» Bunechko said. According to him, all transitions of religious communities in the region occur exclusively by decision of the parishioners themselves.

Recall, September 13, 2025 representatives of the OCU seized the Holy Protection Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Potiyivka, Zhytomyr region. The process of seizure was supervised by the hierarch of the OCU Volodymyr Shlapak, who broke the church fence to get into the temple. According to eyewitnesses of the events, the OCU raiders did not have any documents proving their right to the church building.
