Ukraine and the U.S. are now engaged in a serious dialog regarding the UOC, - political scientist

Ukrainian political scientist and historian Kostyantyn Bondarenko has commented on the postponement of the court hearing in the case of banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was supposed to be held on 30 September. The political scientist is convinced that the trial did not take place because political circles in the USA are exerting pressure on the Ukrainian government to restrict religious freedoms. He told about this in an interview with blogger Oleksandr Shelest.

“In fact, between Ukraine and the United States there is now a serious dialog going on regarding the UOC. on May 1 this year, the United States established a national committee on religious freedoms, which in principle will monitor religious freedoms around the world. Trump said during his speech at the UN General Assembly that today the Christian Church is the most persecuted, experiencing the greatest persecution. Well, how much more persecution than what the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is experiencing in Ukraine today? That is why I think that the signal that was sent from the United States, the signal that was announced at the highest level, it is likely to be heard in Ukraine. and the Ukrainian authorities have decided to make a small pause for the time being out of trouble. Ordered the judge to get sick,” – said Bondarenko.
We will remind, earlier we reported that the court hearing on the case of the ban of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was to be held on September 30, was postponed to October 30. The reason for the postponement was the illness of the judge appointed to hear the case.
