The SBU told about the number of court verdicts against UOC clergymen

The Security Service of Ukraine has reported that 38 real court verdicts have been issued against clergymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In total, the security service initiated more than 180 criminal proceedings against representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, including 23 bishops.

As reported by the publication Liga.Net with reference to the data of the SBU, over the past two years, 22 convictions were issued. In particular, during 2024, the courts found 11 representatives of the UOC guilty. Another 11 clerics received sentences under similar articles of the Criminal Code in 2023(the original source’s message probably contained a typo, and instead of 2023 was specified 2025).

The SBU also assured that in its activities it adheres to the principle of impartiality towards any religious confession. According to the statement, the SBU respects the right of every citizen to freedom of opinion and religion guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine.

We will remind, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kiev, a chaplain of the AFU (confession is not specified — ed.), who turned out to be an agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation. Before the main mission, the attacker was also engaged in the correction of Russian air attacks on the Ukrainian capital. An agent of Russian military intelligence, who acted under the cover of a chaplain for espionage in the ranks of the airborne assault troops of the AFU, was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
