A court in Bulgaria has issued a final ruling on the liquidation of the Bulgarian Orthodox Old Style Church

The Sofia Court of Appeal has issued a final decision to initiate proceedings for the liquidation and deregistration of the Bulgarian Orthodox Old Style Church. This decision overturns the ruling of the court of first instance and is not subject to further appeal.

According to the Bulgarian publication PIK, the case was heard by a panel of three judges on the appeal of the prosecutor’s office. Earlier, the Sofia City Court refused to open liquidation proceedings, but the appeal instance overturned this refusal.

The decision of the Sofia Court of Appeal is final and, according to the publication, has already been posted on the official website of the court. Thus, the legal existence of the Bulgarian Orthodox Old Style Church will be terminated.

Recall, earlier we reported that the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision of the court, which refused to cancel the registration of the religious organization operating under the name «Bulgarian Orthodox Old Style Church» (BOOSC). The prosecutor’s office demanded that the organization be stripped of its legal status and liquidation proceedings be initiated.
