MP Huz announces visit of OCU head to the Cathedral taken from Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of UOC

The Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was taken away from the UOC on October 8, will be visited by the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko. This was stated by the MP of Ukraine Igor Guz, who announced that Epiphany would hold religious events in the church.

According to the BUG.ORG.UA portal, MP Igor Guz commented on the completion of the trial on his Facebook page. «The church, built in 1167, has finally returned to the state. A year and a half of litigation — and all the courts sided with the state. This is a fair, legal and final decision. There will be no rollback,» the politician said.

According to the MP, a special commission is currently completing an inventory of the church property and adjacent buildings. The results of the inventory will be made public. Ihor Huz assured that the Assumption Cathedral will not be empty, but will function in accordance with the current legislation and serve the community.

The parliamentarian also said that he would initiate the first religious events in the cathedral by the head of the OCU. «I am convinced that this will happen, and I am already inviting all patriots, all Orthodox Christians to attend this service in advance. When it takes place, we will inform you in more detail,» he said.

As reported, on October 12, 2025, in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, the religious community of the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the UOC, which was taken away from the Church by the state, was forced to perform Sunday services in the open air for the first time in its history. The Divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Volodymyr-Volyn and Kovel, the head of the UOC Volodymyr-Volyn Eparchy. Since the state-seized Assumption Cathedral had been sealed by the executive authorities a day earlier, the clergy of the UOC equipped a chapel on the territory of the church to perform the service.
