MP Poturaev: Putin's demands on church and language are an attempt to return Ukraine to the 'Russian world'

An MP of the Servant of the People party, Mykyta Poturaev, has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s demands to respect the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are part of a strategy to destroy the Ukrainian identity. According to the politician, this, along with the language issue, is an attempt to «forcibly return Ukraine to the so-called «Russian world.

In comments to the Telegraf publication, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy emphasized that the demands to grant the Russian language the status of the state language and to preserve the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the country have a common cause. «Actually, why did they attack us? Because they want to destroy everything Ukrainian: language, culture, church,» the MP explained. According to him, both these topics are mentioned by the head of the Kremlin in the context of the conditions for the cessation of hostilities.

We shall remind you that the head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov confirmed the information that, during the meeting of the Presidents of Russia and the United States, the issue of banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was discussed. According to Lavrov, the issue of the Ukrainian church crisis was considered in the context of a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war and was included in the package of proposals sent to the Ukrainian side.
