Patriarch Kirill dismissed Metropolitan Nestor from the administration of the Western European Exarchate

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has dismissed Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe from the Patriarchal Exarchate of Western Europe. Metropolitan Mark of Ryazan and Mikhailovsky has been entrusted with the temporary administration of the canonical structures of the Russian Orthodox Church in Western Europe. The reason for the suspension was the church-judicial proceedings initiated against the hierarch.

According to the press service of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Nestor is also suspended from the administration of the Corsun and Spanish-Portuguese dioceses by the order of His Holiness the Patriarch. In addition, this decision applies to the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy.

Metropolitan Mark of Ryazan and Mikhailovsky has been entrusted with the temporary administration of all of the above structures. Details of the church-judicial proceedings, which served as the basis for the suspension, are not disclosed at the moment.

Recall that on December 27, 2024, the final meeting of this year’s Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church was held. One of the decisions of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church was the retirement of Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Budapest and Hungary and his dismissal from all his posts. The reason for this decision, according to the Synod, was “the inconsistency of the nature of his relations with his closest circle and his everyday life with the image of a monk and a clergyman”.
