A series of earthquakes were recorded in the area of Mount Athos

A series of tremors was recorded in the area of Mount Athos in Greece shortly after midnight. According to the seismographic station of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, the main earthquake had a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale, followed by an aftershock of lesser strength.

According to Orthodox Times, the first tremor occurred at 00:17. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the sea area a few kilometers west of Karies, the administrative center of Mount Athos. The source of seismic activity lay at a depth of 6 kilometers.

Ten minutes later, at 00:27, a second shock was registered in the same area. Its magnitude was 2.5 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of this event was located near the monastery of St. Panteleimon, and the depth of the hearth is estimated at 7 kilometers.
