US Congresswoman Accuses Ukrainian Authorities of Persecuting UOC

US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has sharply criticized her colleague, Congressman Joe Wilson, and accused the Ukrainian government of religious persecution. The occasion was Wilson’s public attacks on a delegation of Orthodox hierarchs who came to Washington to discuss the situation with believers in Ukraine.
In her X account, Anna Paulina Luna reacted to Wilson’s post in which he condemned the clergy’s visit. According to her, she personally met with representatives of the Orthodox clergy, who asked for help from American politicians, emphasizing that they represent not only the Russian Orthodox Church.
In her statement, the congresswoman posed a rhetorical question to her opponent: «Bad conclusion, Joe Wilson. I just met with several Orthodox Church leaders … who are asking for help because the Ukrainian government is jailing Christians for preaching their faith. They asked you for help, and you’re doing this? Do you really think that taxpayers’ money should go to persecute Christians?».
We will remind, the day before in Washington there was a meeting of the pan-Orthodox delegation with a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Anna Paulina Luna, dedicated to the issues of persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). Representatives of various Orthodox jurisdictions called on the American authorities to pay attention to the violation of human rights in Ukraine and to take appropriate measures.
