Historical synagogue in Chernivtsi is set on fire

on November 27, 2025, an arson attack was committed in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi against the Sadgorska Synagogue, one of the oldest Jewish holy places in the region, founded in the 19th century. No one was injured as a result of the incident, but the building suffered material damage. Law enforcement officers promptly detained the suspect.
According to the source, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky confirmed that the fire was the result of deliberate actions. He specified that there was no threat to people, but the interior of the shrine suffered from fire.
According to preliminary information, the man detained on suspicion of arson has signs of mental disorder. The investigation is currently underway to clarify all the circumstances and motives of the crime.
Sadgora synagogue, located in the historic district of Sadgora, is an important architectural monument and a spiritual center for the local Jewish community.
Recall, earlier we reported that on the night of May 22, 2025 in the city of Dnipro there was an attempt to set fire to the church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God «Skoroposlushnitsa» belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
