OCU cleric calls war in Ukraine a punishment for abortion

The odious cleric-blogger of the Ternopil Diocese of the OCU, Oleksiy Filyuk, made a resonant statement linking the full-scale war in the country to the millions of abortions performed in Ukraine since independence. Filyuk claims that the war happened in Ukraine because of abortions as a punishment from God for the Ukrainian people.
According to nikpravda.com.ua, Oleksiy Filyuk expressed his opinion in an interview commenting on the demographic situation and its impact on the state’s defense capability. In his opinion, if «these 12 million unborn children were alive today, Ukraine would have much more human resources to defend its independence.»
Filyuk added that «the war is a consequence of our sins, including mass abortions.» He emphasized that abortions weaken the nation not only demographically but also spiritually, and this, according to him, was one of the factors that influenced the current situation in the country.
Earlier, Oleksiy Filyuk called mobilization evasion and hiding from the military service a sin, emphasizing that defending the homeland is the duty of every man. At the same time, when asked why he was not at the front, Filyuk referred to his legal right to deferment, which he obtained through the adoption of children. In addition, Filyuk stated that «surrendering» relatives to territorial recruitment centers (TCCs) is not a sin and can be seen as a benefit to the state.
