Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Phanar and the Vatican for supporting Ukraine

In his New Year’s address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the Farnar (Patriarchate of Constantinople) and the Vatican for their diplomatic efforts and prayers in support of Ukraine. The head of state emphasized the importance of their participation in the pursuit of peace.

Zelensky noted that the idea of a decent peace finds support from all those who are making significant efforts for Ukraine. «These words that there must be peace, must be decent, are supported by everyone who is doing really a lot for Ukraine….. And Spain, which is with us, and the Vatican and the Phanar with their diplomacy and prayer,» Zelensky was quoted as saying by the head of state’s website.

The President also expressed deep gratitude to everyone who is «on the bright side of history, on the side of Ukraine» and actively contributes to peace. He emphasized the importance of a common understanding of the current reality, calling on everyone to be «on the same wave» and «armed with the truth».

We shall remind you that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the decree of President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to which January 7 — the date traditionally associated with the celebration of Christmas for a number of Orthodox churches — will be officially celebrated as Programmer’s Day. This decision is part of a large-scale government initiative to regularize holiday dates in line with the national ideology.
