Constantinople Patriarchate condemned new attacks by Russian state services on Patriarch Bartholomew

The Patriarchate of Constantinople has expressed deep sorrow and condemnation in connection with new attacks, this time coming from the state services of the Russian Federation, on Patriarch Bartholomew. These actions are regarded as «another round of pressure» on the head of the Phanar. This is reported by the official resource of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

In a statement released by the press service of the Phanar, «Mother Church of Constantinople, which is also the Mother of the Russian Church», recalled that since 2018 (since the establishment of the OCU, — ed.) it has consistently avoided commenting on numerous similar attacks. These outbursts have come from both church and political circles and individuals in Russia.

However, despite the constant «bizarre scenarios, false news, insults and fabricated information» from various propagandists, the Patriarchate of Constantinople remains undeterred. The statement emphasizes that such actions will not be able to distract the Patriarchate from continuing its ministry and fulfilling the ecumenical mission.

Recall, earlier we reported that the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) warns about the plans of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to grant autocephaly to the unrecognized «Montenegrin Orthodox Church». It is reported that these actions are seen as a blow to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
