56% of Ukrainians have a positive attitude toward Pope Leo XIV

According to the survey, 56% of Ukrainians have a positive attitude toward Pope Leo XIV. This is higher than the average in 58 countries, which is 49%. In particular, 11% of respondents in Ukraine perceive Leo XIV very positively, and 45% — rather positively. Another 22% have a negative attitude toward him, and 23% are undecided. Thus, in general, there is a moderately positive attitude toward the Pope in Ukraine.

According to the Rating Group, a more favorable attitude toward Pope Leo XIV is observed in the western regions of Ukraine, where 67% of respondents have a good attitude. The survey was conducted as part of an international study by Gallup International, which covered 64,097 respondents in 61 countries. In Ukraine, the survey was conducted by CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews) on a random sample of 1,000 respondents aged 18 and older.

As a reminder, Pope Leo XIV has confirmed that there is a ready-made plan for his visit to Ukraine, but its implementation is fraught with significant difficulties, primarily related to security issues. Nevertheless, the Vatican has already completed the stage of approving the necessary documentation for the trip. The pontiff also expressed hope for a «just and lasting peace» in the country as soon as possible.
