In Uganda, a father killed his son for converting to Christianity

The tragic incident took place in eastern Uganda on January 28, 2026, where a 62-year-old man stabbed his 33-year-old son to death after he left Islam and converted to Christianity. The deceased was left with four young children. This is reported by Morning Star News.

According to Morning Star News, the attack occurred after a joint family dinner: the father fatally wounded his son with a machete. Despite attempts to take the victim to the hospital, medics stated his death. The wife of the deceased stated that the reason for the conflict was the family’s conversion from Islam to Christianity, and earlier the relatives had already made threats, demanding to abandon the new faith.

At the time of publication of the material, there was no official police investigation into the fact of the murder. The publication notes that this case is one of many examples of persecution of Christians in the region, despite the freedom of religion enshrined in the country’s legislation.

Recall that according to the annual World Watch List 2026 (WWL) report published by Open Doors, North Korea is the most dangerous country in the world for Christians, while Nigeria is recognized as the most deadly. The annual report also indicates that the number of Christians experiencing high levels of persecution for their faith has risen to 388 million in the last year — an increase of 8 million from the previous WWL. These figures mean that one in seven Christians worldwide, two in five in Asia and one in five in Africa face persecution.
