Deacon's monastic tonsure performed in Vinnytsia Eparchy of UOC

on March 4, 2026, in the Assumption Cathedral of Bar, Metropolitan Varsonofy of Vinnytsia and Bar performed the monastic tonsure of Deacon Serhiy Rachynsky, a cleric of the Bar deanery. During the tonsure, Father Serhiy received a new name — Makariy, in honor of the Holy Martyr Makariy, Metropolitan of Kyiv. This was reported by the press service of the Vinnytsia Eparchy of the UOC.

After the ordination, the newly tonsured hierodeacon Makariy (Rachynsky) was handed over to his confessor, Archimandrite Seraphim (Povoroznyk), dean of the Bar district. Bishop Varsonofy congratulated Father Makariy on taking on the angelic image and wished him to be a worthy monk, to firmly obey the Church of Christ and be saved for the Kingdom of God.

On March 9, 2026, a significant event for the Orthodox community of Ukraine took place at the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. In the church of St. Agapit, the rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Sylvester of Bila Tserkva , performed monastic tonsure for four students and pupils of Kyiv theological schools. This event marks the beginning of a new spiritual path for the newly tonsured monks, who went on a three-day prayerful retreat after the tonsure.
