A man who promised to arrange travel abroad as a clergyman for $10,000 is detained in Kyiv

In Kyiv, police detained a man who promised his “client” to arrange travel abroad in the status of a clergyman in exchange for $10,000. The defendant assured the man of mobilization age that he had connections in one of the state institutions and could issue a document in his name that would allow him to leave Ukraine. This was reported by LB.ua.

Subsequently, the offender said that he had to pay a $2,500 deposit first, and the remaining $7,500 after the issue was resolved. Upon receipt of the first part of the money, the offender handed over a document to the “client” – a so-called letter of consent to travel outside Ukraine, allegedly to attend an open scientific and religious seminar in one of the European countries.

During the last meeting, the suspect received the second part of the payment. Immediately after the transfer of funds, he was detained by the police. Investigators have already served the suspect a notice of suspicion.

Earlier, we reported that the Ivano-Frankivsk City Court ruled to arrest the head of the Uzhhorod-Khust Diocese of the OCU, Kyrylo Mykhailyuk, suspected of organizing a large-scale scheme to issue fake certificates of ordination as a deacon, which allegedly allowed men liable for military service to evade mobilization. A measure of restraint in the form of detention for 60 days with the possibility of bail was imposed on the defendant.
