Delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church took part in the burial of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II

An official delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) visited Tbilisi on March 21-22, 2026 to participate in funeral services and a farewell ceremony for His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia.

According to the Information and Education Department of the UOC, the visit took place at the invitation of the Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church and with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv and All Ukraine. The delegation included Metropolitan Sergiy of Ternopil and Kremenets, Secretary of the Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Vasily Pritz and Deacon Maxim Savchuk.

on March 21, Metropolitan Sergius celebrated a requiem litany at the tomb of the newly deceased Primate of the Georgian Church in the Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi. The next day, March 22, representatives of the UOC prayed at the Divine Liturgy and took part in the funeral service of His Holiness.

In accordance with the last will and testament of the deceased Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, he was buried in the Sioni Cathedral.
