An exhibition in memory of Patriarch Ilia II opened at the National Archives of Georgia

on April 22, 2026, the National Archives of Georgia hosted the grand opening of the exhibition «Patriarch Ilia II» dedicated to the life and multifaceted spiritual ministry of the deceased Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The exposition is a unique collection of archival materials reflecting the Patriarch’s significant contribution to the history of the country.

According to the Greek Orthodoxia News Agency, the exhibition was prepared under the scientific guidance of Ketevan Asatiani, head of the scientific department of the National Archives. The exposition includes rare photographs illustrating various stages of the Patriarch’s activity, as well as historical ecclesiastical vestments in which he was at his enthronement on December 25, 1977.

Georgian Minister of Justice Paata Salia spoke at the opening ceremony, as well as Director General of the National Archives Teona Iashvili and historian Prof. Sergo Vardosanidze. Representatives of cultural and educational institutions took part in the solemn event, and a choir of children personally baptized by the Patriarch performed spiritual hymns. Residents and guests of the country will be able to visit the exhibition in the pavilion of the National Archives until the end of May 2026.
