The Prosecutor's Office of Mykolayiv region through the court demands to transfer the ancient "German Church" into the ownership of the state

The Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office initiated court proceedings to recognize the local council’s inaction as unlawful and oblige it to register the cultural heritage object – the “German Church” located in the village of Krasnopolye. According to the press service of the Nikolaev Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the building is a recently identified architectural monument, which at the moment actually remains ownerless.

The prosecutor’s inspection found that on the territory of the Berezanskaya territorial community there is an object, the owners or balance holders of which have not been determined. Despite the historical value of the building, the local authorities did not take the necessary measures to formalize the communal ownership of the building. As a consequence, the building is in unsatisfactory condition, as the absence of a legal owner legally blocks the possibility of any repair, conservation or restoration work.

In the lawsuit filed, the prosecutor’s office demands that the township council be obliged to take all actions required by law to acquire ownership of the property. This will further ensure the proper preservation of the monument and the allocation of funds for its restoration. At the moment the court has already opened proceedings on the case, the proceedings continue.
