In Tbilisi, a cab car rammed into the gates of the Georgian Patriarchate residence

An emergency incident was recorded in Tbilisi on the territory of the residence of the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church: a passenger car broke through the checkpoint at speed, damaging infrastructure elements. According to preliminary information, the incident resulted in damage to the entrance gate and barrier.

According to the SPJ in Georgia, the incident occurred on May 20, 2026. The participant of the incident was a Toyota Prius cab car. The vehicle at high speed demolished the barrier and crashed into the gate of the Patriarchate, causing significant material damage to the structure.

Law enforcement officers are currently working on the site to establish all the circumstances and possible motives of the driver. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has not yet provided official data on the presence of dead or injured, but it is expected that the press center of the agency will make an extended statement in the near future.

It should be noted that the incident happened shortly after the election of the new Patriarch of Georgia. Experts suggest that this incident may provoke increased control of access to the territory of the Patriarchate, additional checks of security procedures, as well as changes in traffic routes and parking rules for official vehicles near the residence.
