A mass baptism of about 1,500 people took place in Georgia

On Sunday, October 25, 2026, a large-scale church ceremony took place in the village of Khichauri, located in the Shuakhavi municipality in Georgia. As part of an initiative by the Diocese of Skhalt, approximately 1,500 people were baptized, becoming spiritual children of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
According to the Vima Orthodoxias website, this event is part of a long-standing tradition of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The holding of such mass baptisms, in which the Georgian Patriarch personally serves as the spiritual godfather, has become a significant institution for strengthening spiritual ties between the faithful and the head of the Georgian Church.
The initiative aims to support church life and foster spiritual unity within the country, bringing thousands of new members into the community under the Patriarch’s patronage each year.
As a reminder, we previously reported that in the Australian city of Perth, the congregation of the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos celebrated a significant event: nine people received the Sacrament of Baptism, officially joining the Orthodox Church.
