In Uganda, a father attempted to kill his daughters for converting from Islam to Christianity

A shocking case of religious intolerance occurred in the Ugandan village of Kibenge: a father attempted to burn his two daughters, Amina and Shamil, alive after they converted to Christianity. The incident was the man’s reaction to the girls’ decision to renounce Islam.
The incident occurred around midnight on September 6, 2026. Muhammad, the victims’ father, doused the house with gasoline and set it on fire while the girls were sleeping. He justified his actions by citing religious norms, claiming that the punishment followed their renunciation of the Muslim faith, which had taken place in late August.
Although the flames destroyed all of the sisters’ belongings, they managed to escape by breaking bricks out of the wall of the burning house. Amina and Shamilah survived and stated that, despite the loss of their home, their faith in Jesus Christ remains unshaken. Local Christian leaders and government officials have already condemned this crime, calling it a gross violation of Ugandan law, and have called for the perpetrator to be held strictly criminally liable.
As a reminder, on January 28, 2026, in Uganda, a 62-year-old man stabbed his 33-year-old son to death after the son left Islam and converted to Christianity. The victim is survived by four young children.
