In Transcarpathia, a monk of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) sided with the schism and defected to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU)

Hieromonk Nestor Medvedchuk, a cleric of the Khust Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, sided with the schism and transferred to the jurisdiction of the OCU. The decision to accept him into the Mukachevo-Carpathian Diocese of the OCU was approved on June 9, 2026, during a meeting at the residence of the OCU hierarch in Uzhhorod.

According to the official website of the Mukachevo-Carpathian Diocese of the OCU, the meeting took place at the request of the clergyman himself. Hieromonk Nestor, who had previously served at the Holy Trinity Monastery of the UOC (Khust-Gorodilovo), announced his departure from the clergy of the canonical Church and submitted a request to be enrolled in the staff of the Mukachevo-Carpathian Diocese of the OCU.

After conducting an interview and a detailed review of his personal file, OCU hierarch Viktor Bed granted the priest’s request. By the relevant decrees, Hieromonk Nestor Medvedchuk was appointed a clergyman of the Cathedral of St. Andrew the First-Called of the OCU in the city of Uzhhorod.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the rector of the parish in honor of St. John the Theologian in the village of Kyselivka, Chernihiv District, ChernihivRegion, Archimandrite Seraphim (Lisovyi), defected to the schism and joined the OCU. The incident occurred on August 6, 2025.
