The new head of the Bessarabian Metropolis called on the Moldovan government to cooperate

Metropolitan Anthony of Bessarabia proposed strengthening the partnership between church institutions and the new government of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Orthodoxia News Agency ( ), the hierarch emphasized that the start of the new cabinet’s work coincides with a new phase in the life of the Metropolis of Bessarabia, creating favorable conditions for constructive cooperation.

In an official letter to Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, Metropolitan Anthony noted that the Metropolis of Bessarabia is ready to actively assist government agencies in serving society. According to the metropolitan, the priority areas for cooperation should be the development of education, the protection of spiritual and cultural heritage, support for families, and the implementation of social and charitable initiatives.

Metropolitan Anthony expressed his confidence that effective dialogue between the state and the Church, based on mutual respect and professionalism, will serve to strengthen social cohesion in the country. In addition, the head of the Metropolis expressed gratitude to Romania for its continued support of the Republic of Moldova and wished the new government success in its work for the benefit of the entire nation.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the Bessarabian Metropolis, operating under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Church, may initiate proceedings to strip the Orthodox Church of Moldova (part of the Moscow Patriarchate) of its right to use more than 800 churches that have the status of historical monuments. The basis for this was a recent decision by the Chisinau Court of Appeals, which set an important legal precedent.
