The Bulgarian Church has extended the suspension of the notorious Archimandrite Nikanor from ministry

The Sofia Metropolis of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has officially announced the extension of the ecclesiastical penalty imposed on Archimandrite Nikanor (Mishkov). According to Order No. 138 of August 10, 2026, signed by His Holiness Daniel, Metropolitan of Sofia and Patriarch of Bulgaria, the clergyman is prohibited from conducting divine services for an additional 15 days.

As reported by , the Sofia Metropolis of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church states that this decision was made as part of the ongoing ecclesiastical court case No. 2/2026. The official document states that the disciplinary measure, known as “ ‘Argos’,” takes effect on August 13, 2026.

The order was issued based on the relevant provisions of the Statute of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, which govern the conduct of ecclesiastical court cases. Within the Church, such a measure constitutes a severe disciplinary sanction that restricts a cleric’s right to administer sacraments and conduct public divine services for the specified period.
