The Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has spoken out against the politicization of the church

The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church issued an official statement in which it categorically condemned attempts to sow division and politicize the activities of church institutions. According to Romfea.gr, the Church leadership has distanced itself from the public statements of Archimandrite Nikanor Mishkov, who is under a canonical ban from ministry.

The Synod’s official document emphasizes that the cleric’s actions and statements directed against the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the person of the Patriarch are unacceptable and provoke public scandal among the faithful. The hierarchs specifically noted that they will not allow church institutions to be used for narrow political interests, and that attempts at schism will be suppressed in accordance with the Church’s Statute and the sacred canons.

The Church leadership called on the clergy and laity not to succumb to provocations that lead to hostility and division. On the eve of the Dormition Fast, believers are asked to focus on prayer, repentance, and preserving unity in Christ, so as to prevent the destruction of peace within the church community.
