Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu expressed his support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church during this time of trial for the Church

Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands, expressed deep sorrow over the severe trials currently facing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and called on the faithful to pray for an end to the bloodshed.

The hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Church made this statement on October 31, 2026, following the consecration ceremony of a church dedicated to the Venerable Fathers of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on the island of Corfu. According to the source, representatives of the UOC episcopate took part in the solemn event.

In his speech, Bishop Nektarios emphasized that the heart of the Orthodox people “aches especially” because of the situation in Ukraine. According to him, the sister Church today is forced to confront internal temptations and schisms that are destroying the unity of the people. The Metropolitan particularly emphasized that the ongoing military clashes between Orthodox Christians are the result of diabolical interference and “do not come from God.”

Concluding his address, Metropolitan Nektarios assured that the clergy and faithful of Corfu are offering sincere prayers at the relics of St. Spyridon of Trimythous, asking the Lord for peace and the swift end of all armed conflicts on earth.

As a reminder, the OCU had previously called on its supporters to publicly criticize Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra because of his recent visit to Russia.
