Archbishop George of Cyprus issued a statement regarding the situation surrounding former Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos

Archbishop George of Cyprus has granted former Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos, who has been suspended from ministry, a 10-day period to arrange a personal meeting before the Holy Synod makes a final decision on his case. The Primate of the Church of Cyprus emphasized that the bishop has not yet contacted the Archdiocese. Archbishop George also expressed dissatisfaction with Tikhikos’s behavior, noting a discrepancy between his claims of health issues—which have caused him to miss Synod meetings—and his frequent travel between Greece and Cyprus. This was reported by the Orthodoxia News Agency.

In his statement, Archbishop George categorically denied rumors about the creation of a new church structure in Cyprus, calling such attempts futile. In addition, he warned the faithful against participating in divine services and the celebration of the sacraments in private homes conducted by defrocked clergy, emphasizing that such rites do not have the Church’s blessing.

As a reminder, we previously reported that a threat of schism is looming within the Orthodox Church of Cyprus due to the crisis in the Metropolis of Paphos.
