A monastic house of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has opened on the island of Corfu

On Saturday, October 31, 2026, Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos, and Diapondia presided over the grand opening of a new monastic house in the city of Corfu. The establishment of the monastery was made possible through the initiative and with the blessing of Metropolitan Onuphrius of Kyiv and All Ukraine, as well as with the support of Metropolitan Agathangelos of Odessa. This was reported by the Orthodox Times.
The new monastic house, located in the immediate vicinity of the Church of St. Spyridon of Trimythous, includes a house chapel consecrated in honor of the Venerable Fathers of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The opening of the monastery coincided with the celebration of the 975th anniversary of the founding of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Seven hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church participated in the ceremony, including Metropolitan Clement of Nezhin and Pryluky and Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Halych, as well as numerous pilgrims from Ukraine. Divine services were conducted in Greek, Church Slavonic, Ukrainian, and Romanian, and the hymns were performed by the Byzantine choir of the Metropolis of Corfu and a choir from Ukraine.
On Sunday, November 1, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the newly consecrated church, presided over by Metropolitan Clement of Nezhin and Pryluky. After the service, an awards ceremony was held to honor the benefactors who supported the creation of this spiritual center. To conclude the visit, the Ukrainian pilgrims took part in the traditional procession with the relics of Saint Spyridon through the streets of Corfu.
