In Jerusalem, volunteers have begun providing security for Catholic nuns due to a rise in attacks

In Jerusalem, incidents of religious aggression have become more frequent, forcing volunteers to organize escorts for Catholic nuns. Human rights activists have documented a threefold increase in incidents committed by radical Jews.

The situation in the city has become so tense that believers are seriously concerned for their safety. A recent incident in which a nun working at the French Biblical and Archaeological School was beaten—following which the police detained a resident of a Jewish settlement—has caused particular alarm. Catholic Sister Mayela from Mexico admitted that she now lives in constant fear whenever she has to go out in public wearing her religious habit.

To counter this aggression, civic activist Iskha Harani has formed a special monitoring group. Activists not only accompany clergy and monks as they move around the city, but also document every instance of misconduct to provide evidence to law enforcement agencies. Currently, observers are recording an average of about one incident per day, and it is noted that the majority of acts of aggression come from ultra-Orthodox Jews.
