A French Catholic nun was assaulted by a Jew in Jerusalem

A French Catholic nun was attacked on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, sparking widespread international reaction and serious concern for the safety of Christian communities in the Holy Land. According to the Greek publication Vima Orthodoxias, Israeli police have already detained the 36-year-old suspect and have stated a “zero tolerance” policy for such acts of violence.
The incident, captured on video, took place at one of the city’s most significant religious sites. The victim, who is also a research archaeologist, was subjected to unprovoked aggression by a man wearing traditional Jewish clothing. The footage shows the assailant pushing the woman with force, causing her to fall to the ground, and then continuing to strike her until a passerby intervened. The nun reportedly suffered abrasions to her face but escaped more serious injuries.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry in its official statement called the incident a “shameful act,” emphasizing that it is completely contrary to the values of religious freedom and peaceful coexistence. In turn, the French Consulate in Jerusalem demanded the immediate punishment of the perpetrator, noting that such actions are unacceptable in a city with a deep religious and historical character.
The site of the incident, Mount Zion, is in close proximity to King David’s Tomb and the Upper Room of the Last Supper. The significance of the area makes the incident even more resonant. Experts and representatives of Christian communities point to a disturbing trend of growing hostility, with dozens of incidents of harassment in Jerusalem in recent years, ranging from verbal abuse to vandalism of places of worship.
The incident comes amid increased international pressure on the Israeli government to ensure religious freedom. The authorities emphasize that they will act decisively to ensure the safety of all religious groups and to preserve Jerusalem’s historic image as a place of peace and respect.
